Terms of Service

Cancellation

  • If the couple cancels or requests a date/time/location change, a Couple is not required to pay the remaining balance on services if they cancel at least 10 business days before the scheduled ceremony.

  • If the balance has already been paid, it will be returned if the cancellation occurs at least five (5) business days before the scheduled ceremony.

  • Changes to a Couple’s wedding date, ceremony start time, or location will only be accommodated as the Officiant’s availability allows. If the ceremony cannot be satisfactorily rescheduled, cancellation guidelines will apply.

  • If the Officiant is unable to perform a Couple’s ceremony due to illness, family emergency, or other unforeseen circumstance, an authorized Backup Officiant will be provided in their place. The Backup Officiant will be given full access to all ceremony planning materials, custom ceremony script (if applicable), etc, and will perform the Officiant’s duties as defined above in full. If the Couple chooses to hire an alternate replacement officiant on their own, the Couple will be given full access to any custom ceremony materials to use. In such an event that no substitute is available, all monies paid by the Couple to the Officiant will be returned, and the Couple hereby agrees that the Officiant will not be held liable for any damages (including punitive) due to the non-performance of the ceremony or function.

Payment Terms

  • Deposit Requirement: The Couple agrees to pay a deposit in the amount of 50% of the total cost upon signing this agreement. This deposit will be put toward the total owed and places a ‘hold’ on the Officiant’s services on the wedding date given herein. This deposit is non-refundable, with few exceptions (see Cancellation policies for more information).

  • Refunds

    - Deposits are non-refundable.

    - Ceremonies that must be canceled due to extreme weather or unsafe conditions affecting the venue and surrounding areas, such as tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding, fire, or severe heat/cold, are fully refundable (including the deposit) and can be rescheduled with the Officiant based on availability.

    - Ceremonies that must be canceled due to either party to the marriage being hospitalized for severe illness/injury before the ceremony can occur are fully refundable (including the deposit) and can be rescheduled with the Officiant based on availability

  • Delays Due to Officiant: If the Officiant delays the start of the wedding (due to late arrival, etc.), the Couple will be refunded 25% of the total ceremony cost.

    Other Terms

  • Special Materials for Ceremony: The Couple is responsible for providing any special materials they wish to use in the marriage ceremony, such as unity candles, unity sand, handfasting cords, wedding rings, etc.

  • Marriage License: The Couple understands that they must obtain/provide a valid marriage license from the appropriate jurisdiction for which the ceremony will be performed and shall provide such valid marriage license to the Officiant to review and execute at the rehearsal or prior to the ceremony. The Officiant cannot perform a legal marriage ceremony without receiving the appropriate valid marriage license prior to the ceremony. If the Couple does not provide valid identification and a marriage license on the date of the ceremony, then only a symbolic ceremony can be performed. This will result in a non-legal status of husband and wife.

    The Couple also agrees to provide (if applicable) witness(es) to sign their marriage license. If the license is not received by the County Clerk, the Officiant will work cooperatively with the Couple to resolve the issue. Cost for replacement license, if any, will be assumed by the Couple unless failure to record is due to negligence or error on the part of the Officiant, in which case Officiant will assume the cost of the replacement license. If the Couple do not need the Officiant to complete the marriage license information (e.g. for a non-legal commitment ceremony or renewal of vows), no discount will be given.

    The Couple will sign the official marriage certificate upon presenting a valid marriage license to the Officiant. The responsibility of filing this certificate with the county clerk’s office is solely that of the Officiant. The Officiant is legally obligated to return the completed license to the County Clerk’s office where the License was obtained by the Couple within 15 days of the wedding ceremony. The Couple will be responsible for requesting certified copies of the marriage license, unless otherwise agreed upon at the time of entering into this Agreement

  • Permissions and Use of Photos: The Couple gives permission and shall allow The Officiant to post a photograph(s) of them with The Officiant on The Officiant’s website and/or social media platforms for viewing by the internet community. The Couple acknowledges that this is for promotional purposes only and they do not expect to receive any compensation of any kind. The Officiant gives permission to the Couple to use her likeness in any photographs, videos, or other recording media in any manner for any purpose they wish. There shall be no expiration for this permission.

  • Travel and Expenses: Any travel of over 15 miles (one way) from the Officiant’s home address shall be charged at the IRS Standard Rate (round trip). Mileage will be determined using Google Maps. All toll expenses are also the responsibility of The Couple. Additional travel expenses may include a one- or two-night hotel stay, if the rehearsal and/or wedding are more than 90 miles away for the night before the wedding. These details MUST be discussed prior to signing the contract. Hotel accommodations are required for any of the following conditions:

    a) If the wedding is before 11:00 a.m. and more than 90 miles away (for the night before the wedding);

    b) If the wedding is after 5:30 p.m. and more than 90 miles away (for the night of the wedding);

    c) If the wedding is more than 90 miles away and service is requested for rehearsal the night before the wedding.

    All estimated travel expenses will be included in the total ceremony cost and must be paid one week before the ceremony. All parking fees and entrance fees to your venue are to be paid by The Couple and shall be included in the total ceremony cost and shall be paid one week prior to the ceremony.

  • Resolving Disputes: The Couple agrees to acknowledge the services being provided by the Officiant, in a dignified and respectful manner. If a dispute arises regarding services of Officiant, the Couple must submit a full written report to Officiant by email (megan@meganmarries.com) no later than three (3) days immediately after performed ceremony in order for the parties involved to reach a mutually acceptable resolution. If both parties involved continue to disagree, then a mutually agreed-upon mediator will be used. The cost of which will be equally divided between the parties.

    Furthermore, the Couple agrees not to post negative reviews on the internet (or elsewhere) or to make negative verbal or written statements until all efforts to resolve said discrepancy have been exhausted.

  • Indemnity and Hold Harmless: Couple agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Officiant of and from any and all claims, demands, losses, causes of action, damage, lawsuits, judgments, including attorneys’ fees and costs, to the extent caused by or arising out of or relating to the work of the Officiant.
